Urban Planning
Our urban planning services integrate climate change and equity considerations to help governments build resilient communities.

Service
We collaborate with local governments to build urban plans, policies, and implementation frameworks backed by public participation and comprehensive scenario analysis.
Our approach enables officials and community members to compare and discuss the projected impacts of urban policy decisions on infrastructure, transportation, energy and climate systems, as well as community behaviour. Armed with this analysis, decision-makers can choose land-use and development approaches that improve quality of life and affordability, while reducing pollution and building resilience to extreme weather.
Relevant Example
SSG was part of the planning team that developed the Town of Ladysmith, BC’s award-winning Official Community Plan. SSG supported the project by modelling the impact of three urban policy scenarios on greenhouse gas emissions, energy demand, land use, and costs so that the Town could embed policies that reduce climate pollution.
The Plan won the Planning Institute of British Columbia’s 2024 Excellence in Small Town and Rural Planning Silver Award. It set a new standard for community plans in BC because of its efforts to advance climate action, affordable housing, and resilient infrastructure, combined with Indigenous People’s consultation, in a rapidly growing community.
